About occupational therapists
Occupational therapists help people across the lifespan participate in the activities they want and need to do — bathing, dressing, working, playing and managing their environment after injury, illness or developmental challenge.
OTs work in pediatric, hand therapy, neuro rehab, mental health, geriatric and ergonomic specialties. Many hold advanced certifications (CHT, BCP, BCG, AOTA specialty cert).

What's the difference between OT and PT?+
PT focuses on movement, strength and mobility. OT focuses on the activities of daily living — using upper-extremity function, cognition, sensory processing and adaptive strategies to restore independence.
Do children need occupational therapy?+
Pediatric OTs work on fine motor skills, sensory processing, handwriting, self-care and play participation for kids with developmental delays, autism, ADHD or injury.
What is hand therapy?+
Hand therapy is an OT subspecialty focused on upper-extremity injuries and conditions. Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) hold advanced post-graduate certification.
Is occupational therapy covered by insurance?+
Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial plans cover OT when medically necessary. Pediatric OT for developmental conditions is often covered by Medicaid and EI programs.
